Filey Sailing Club Notice Of Race (NoR)

The Organizing Authority is Filey Sailing Club
in conjunction with the Kestrel Class Association

1. Rules:

   1. The event is governed by the rules as defined in the
      Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

   2. The Organising Authority implements the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Racing Charter. Competitors shall undertake to sail in accordance to the Charter.

   3. The notation ‘[NP]’ in a rule means that a boat may not protest another boat for breaking that rule. This changes RRS 60.1.

   4. [NP] RRS 40.1 applies at all times while afloat.

   5. RRS 63.5(c)(2) is changed so that in the event of a conflict between the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

2. Sailing Instructions:

   1. The sailing instructions will be available no later than midday, 1st August 2026 on the Filey SC website
      https://www.fileysc.org.uk/
      – please refer to the ‘Open Events’ page.

   2. Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 08:30 on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the first warning signal of races which will be posted by 19:00 on the day before it will take effect.

3. Communication:

   1. Official notices will be posted on the ‘Open Events’ page on the Filey SC website before the event and will be placed on the board outside the club house from Thursday 27th Aug.

   2. While racing, except in an emergency, a boat shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats.

4. Eligibility and Entry:

   1. The event is open to all boats of the Kestrel class that are current members of the Kestrel Class Association.

   2. Eligible boats should enter online at

      please use the ‘Book Online’ submenu, select ‘Open Event’ and then select the Kestrel Open Event to access the registration process.

   3. To be considered an entry in the event, all eligible boats shall complete all registration requirements and pay all fees by the closing date.

   4. The closing date for entries is midnight Saturday 22nd August 2026. Entries after this

   5. For any competitor under 18 years of age at the start of the event, a Parent/Guardian Consent and Supervision Form must be completed.

5. Entry Fees:

   1. The Kestrel Nationals entry fee is £120 per boat.

   2. The entry fee includes two tickets for the Saturday BBQ and a parking pass for both the helm & crew (valid for Friday to Sunday)

   3. Filey SC is also offering these additional items which should be booked on the Filey SC website fileysc.org.uk Booking cut-off is as per event entry.

      1. Basic Camping for 3 nights – Thurs 27 Aug to Sat 29th Aug at £40. Additional camping for Sunday night available at registration (£10)

      2. Additional parking passes at £10

      3. Friday night Pie & Peas at £8

      4. Additional Saturday BBQ Tickets at £8

   4. The Entry Fee or additional item fee will be refundable if cancelled by the event organiser.

6. Schedule:

   1. Competitors should arrive on Thurs 27th Aug. Due to spring tides all boats should be stored at the club as opposed to on the beach. Access to the club will be via the gate in the Filey Brigg Country Park, please do not approach the club over the beach from Cobble Landing. Assistance from the club will be available from mid-afternoon.

   2. For those purchasing Filey SC Camping, access to the Camping area will be from 5pm Thursday. Parking charges operate in the Filey Brigg Country Park 24 hours per day if arriving prior to 5pm or not using Filey SC Camping please ensure you have purchased a ticket.

   3. The dates of racing will be Fri 28th Aug to Sun 30th Aug 2026.

   4. Registration will be available Thurs 27th Aug from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Fri 28th Aug 8:30am to 9:00am.

   5. There will be a competitor briefing at 9:30am on Fri 28th Aug.

   6. The first warning signal each day will not be before 10:55am.

   7. The event will consist of up to 8 races, with no more than 3 races per day. Friday – 3 races sailed back-to-back

      Saturday – 3 races with lunch break after second race

      Sunday – 2 races. There is additionally an optional Kestrel Crews Race after lunch break. All races will last approx. 45 mins.

   8. The Kestrel Crews Race will be sailed as a non-series race after the break ashore if there is sufficient interest.

   9. On the last scheduled day of racing no warning signal will be made after 1:00pm (main series) or after 2:30pm (Kestrel Crews Race).

   10. Awards Ceremony Fri 28th & Sat 29th evening and Sun 30th afternoon.

   11. Depart either Sunday afternoon – or on Monday 31st August (Bank Holiday) if Sunday night camping purchased.

7. Clothing and Equipment:

   1. RRS 40.1 will apply.

   2. [NP] Boats shall comply with RRS 78.1 if presented for inspection.

   3. All boats, sails, spars and foils may be subject to scrutineering throughout the event.

   4. All boats shall sail using their registered sail numbers. Any changes to sail numbers shall be requested in writing and approved by the Race Officer before racing commences.

   5. Boats and trailers shall be stored as directed by the Organising Authority.

8. Venue

   1. The venue is Filey Sailing Club, Arndale Way, Filey YO14 9EW and the sailing area is within Filey Bay.

9. Course

   1. The courses to be sailed will be presented to competitors at the competitors briefing and shall be described in the Sailing Instructions.

10. Scoring:

    1. The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply.

    2. Three races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

    3. A boat’s series score will be calculated as follows:

       • When fewer than five races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores.

       • When from five to eight races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst result.

11. Data Protection:

    1. The personal information you provide to the organizing authority will be used to facilitate your participation in the event. If you have agreed to be bound by the Racing Rules of

       Sailing and the other rules that govern the event (the rules), the legal basis for processing that personal information is contract. If you are not bound by the rules, the legal basis for processing that personal information is legitimate interest. Your personal information will be stored and used in accordance with the organizing authority’s privacy policy. When required by the rules, personal information may be shared with the RYA, your national

       authority and/or World Sailing. The results of the event and the outcome of any hearing or appeal may be published.

    2. In participating any competitor automatically grants to the Organising Authority to make, use and show, from time to time, any still/motion pictures and live, taped or film

       television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the event without compensation, in perpetuity.

12. Risk Statement:

    Rule 3 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”

    Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:

    • They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the

      event;

    • They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore;

    • They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;

    • Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;

    • The provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;

    • The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances;

    • It is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event drawn to their attention in any rules and information produced for the venue or event and to attend any safety briefing held for the event.

13. Insurance:

    1. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £3,000,000 per incident or the equivalent.

14. Prizes:

    1. Prizes are to be awarded as set out in the Sailing Instructions.

       This Notice of Race may be changed. Any change or amendment that is made will be posted on the Filey SC website
       www.fileysc.org.uk/

       If cancellation is required due to any unforeseen event, then where possible this will be notified via the website at least 24 hours before the start time for the event and emails sent to all participants.
